Dipping my toes into the underworld of fiction...

Sat May 23, 2009, 11:03 AM
  • Listening to: Evanescence - The Open Door (album)
  • Reading: Chimera, by Ian Irvine (for the tenth time...)
  • Watching: The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen
  • Playing: Dawn of War - Soulstorm
  • Eating: Crispynut Cornflakes
  • Drinking: Coffee. A lot of it.
Right, first things first. I've never been much of a writer, but I read a hell of a lot and so I kind of know what's good and what's bad. When a thread in the forums of The Escapist ([link]) was created based around short stories and the criticism of said stories, I decided to dip my toe, as it were, into creative writing. Subsequntely people started messaging me saying that my work was great and that they were surprised I didn't write more often. Hence, when I decided that an idea I'd harboured for a series of short films, for a long time, failed to get off the ground I decided to turn it into a series of written work to be posted on the site. I soon decided perhaps posting the work to Deviant Art would also help ensure the desired constructive criticism I wanted in order to further improve my skills at the written word. And so, here it is. Today I posted parts 1-4 of Digs. Based around an original idea following a group of students, and also based partly on my own experiences of university (though the more 'dramatic' events are indeed complete fiction), I will endeavour to update the series every so often (although ironically enough university is what will also reduce the frequency of said updates) on both The Escapist and Deviant Art. All I can say now is, I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I did writing it :)

Pretty cool work. I like it. I never was brilliant with the wax myself... but then I've never been that good at physical art anyway, have I? :]
